I am re-phrasing. I have a 48"x24'x31" 150 gallon tank with a custom aluminum frame. The top offers no ledge or rim to support a regular glass lid. i need help and ideas for either fashioning a lid or the top of the tank to support a good heavy glass top. Please see pics......Thanks for any help!!!!!

Now do you think that center brace can support a heavy glass top?

If it can you can get two pieces of glass cut, that span the length of the tank and get some square glass pieces maybe 1" square the same thickness of the tops and mount them under the glass tops so it fits flush with the aluminum frame. So basically the little glass squares are what is keeping the glass lid from sliding back and forth and side to side.

I don't know how your going to plumb the tank so you may or may not need one of those plastic strips for the back to run lines over the side.

I think I would have to reinforce the brace which would be fairly easy with a few Gorilla glued support posts...maybe a thick pc of acrylic I cut from the overflow....I am planning to use cannisters for now....i can grab the plastic strips from my lfs if i dont get too thick on the glass.....The support sits above the tanks rim....seems like a poor design on an otherwise professionally made tank.

Well if you strengthen the center support then you should just have 4 pieces of glass cut so you can open each side independently. Perhaps attach a wider piece of aluminum under the current center brace and have the glass lids sit on that and the sides of the tank? Since then it would be all on the same level.
