Ok...I have a 125 gallon freshwater tank thats gonna be empty in about 1 month. I had originally planned on getting either Viejas or Chocolates for it...but I got to looking at some vids of predatorial fish and could not resist the old urge to own one of natures natural born killing machines. Heres the problem... I cannot decide on which predator fish to get. Here are the fish I have been considering, please share any advice or suggestions (keep in mind it will most likely be solitary for optimum growth and health):

Guapotes (preferably a Red Tiger)

Giant Puffer (Mbu)

African Tiger Fish

Peruvian Black Rhom

Saber Tooth Payara

I have been in the hobby for over 3 years and have all my experience with large Cichlids but what I am looking for is a predator that will grow to a considerably large size, is reasonably hardy, an eating machine and if at all possible have some color. I have done some research on these fish and this will be considered part of it. It appears I should be able to house any of these fish at least till I can upgrade its tank. I appreciate any and all feedback, advise and suggestions given. Thanks to all and to the

The mbu and atf will outgrow that 125 for sure. The payara might too, depending on what species you pick up. Why not get a pair of festae?

a tilapia. common one. grow to 16-18 inch. get a guy n gal. sexing them is easy. girl always one colour no stripes nothing and usually bronze or silver. guy stripes all kinds of weird. can chsange colour completly different in literally 5-10 mins. make sure you provide a gravel r sand substrate as the dude luvs makin pits.(when hes horny)

Hmmmm...yep. Ive been researching all the options all weekend long. Ive come to the realization that African Tiger fish are recomended for tanks larger than 500 gallons. Mbu get to 24" and that at adulthood is too large for my tank though I do plan on upgrading to at least a 300g within the next 2 years, but they eat large quantities of mullosks and Im not sure I can provide what they need so I think they are out. I need to do more research on the Payara, but Im really pulling towards the Rhom or Guapotes. Im gonna check into the Tilapia and the Motas but the red terror (Festae) seems too much like a Flowerhorn, Trimac or Red Devil and Ive already done those. Thanks to all who replied and I will keep everyone informed.
