Ny to Fl and Back Again
I have been trying to decide on what to move where for months. I am finishing my move and I will be bringing in my 270 to my new home by the end of the week. I am trying to figure how to split up the pikes without getting rid of anything. I wanted to put the 2 cinctas I bought in the 270 but since their ID is still in the air I am going to work with the others at the moment. So heres what I have.

2 Atabapo 8-9"(spelled it right for a change)- they have been together since I bought them. I am not sure if their a pair but they definitely travel together

1 Cobra-9-10"Super agrressive. Hates anything that resembles a pike

1 Sveni- 7"Pretty calm from what I know .nice appetite

1 Xingu- 7-8"Catch him under a rock or behind some driftwood. Saw a lil aggression to one of my sevs but nothing other than that

I have a 270,220, and a 50gal at the moment. Right now the Cobra, Atabapos and Sveni in the 220 with dividers. Xingu in 20 long.

Tankmates are Sevs, Geos, Jag, Motags, Chocolates and plenty Cats. I was leaning towards putting the Atab's in the 270 because there are 2. Cobra is pretty awesome though. Tell me what you think. Any imput appreciated in advance. Sorry for long thread:grinno:

cobra in the 50 alone everything else just split up in the larger tanks...or if you can get the cobra to go along with other cichlids that arent' pikes, then put him in one of the larger tanks along with your jags, motags and any other aggressive normal cichlids you have.

I like the idea of the Cobra in the 50. That idea had at no point ever crossed my mind. That would open alot of possibilities.

I am curious though what do you think about a pike with that kind of size potential being in a tank that small longterm? I would be able to provide a massive filtration system for him.

Def keep the atabapos together if they're gettin along, careful with the cobra - xingu mix (sometimes dif sexed/species pikes actually tolerate each other) ~ you may need a divider! You could even try the cinctas in the 20 (for a while) - careful with these guys as they get older, in the blink of an eye seemingly compatible pairs can be dubious. the male sometimes just gets nasty - should be separated from the lady. We've had luck re-introducing male/female couples when mature-older, but that can be dicey. All depends on the fish & it's temperment - creni's can be strange creatures-------

Sveni in the 20, 2 atabapoes in the 270, cobra/xingu in the 220 with pipes and leave a space in the 270 for the cinctas but you can start them in the 50.

I like taz's idea
