My oscars about 4-5" got the poop beat out of them last night, they have paired an are the biggest an calmest fish in my tank. My tank also has 2 small plecos an 1 male convict about 2" but he is super aggressive. I also have a 3" female JD very relaxed an a 2.5" GT also very relaxed. The tank is a 60 gallon an I am in the process of upgrading to a big tank. What should I do??also all the fish won't be going in the big tank.

figure out the culprit and remove to another tank

These fish will eventually need 300 gallons to prevent WW3. 60 gallons is big enough for one Oscar.

Agreed, I would definitely say now is the time to pick up your larger tank and start cycling. In the
mean time I would suggest adding a tank divider and keeping an eye out for the culprit. So that they may be quarantined. If you don't have the time to watch them then I would suggest adding 2 dividers and separating both of the oscars away from the other fish. You said that they had paired up, but they sound like they may be a little young for that, there is a possibility that they are fighting with one another.

Agreed, they are too young to be pairing up. If they are fighting, then the other Oscar may be the one that beat up your other one.

It says I'm getting a big tank....an the GT an JD are going in to a different tank then the other fish. I don't know why people always have to comment on tank size, it gets old super quick.

They are commenting on tank size because that is the answer to the question you asked. "what should I do?" Separate the fish or get a bigger tank now, that's the only way to fix the problem.

Some of us cannot, try as we might, comprehend why anyone would set up a small tank, stuff it with fish, wait for disasters, and then go through the pain of setting up another. Yet every time I go on a fish forum I see this. It's like renting a studio apartment, acquiring six Great Danes, then waiting for mayhem and mounds of crap before buying a house.

Evolution is a cold-hearted b_tch. She created cichlids to be territorial and aggressive. The question "Why are they fighting?" almost always has a boilerplate answer involving space. ("Why aren't they fighting?" is the head-scratcher, in the rare instances when it applies.:))

300g may be a bit excessive, although bigger is always better. You do need a bigger tank for them. Glad you are getting one :)

The male con may be the culprit. At this size you should be able to keep it in a 20g for a while. I'd say take it out for now and set up the bigger tank quick.
