Good afternoon folks... I need a little help... I'm not new to aquariums, I've had them all my life except for the last few years... I decided to take a break until my kids got a little older... Well, that time has come...

I've had several cichlid tanks and really love them, but I'm thinking to have something a little more "unique" as this tank will be in my living room(where we spend most of our time)... I'll also have a 55 gal that will either be discus or cichlids, I can't decide, but either way, I've got that handled...

My 110 gal's dimensions are 48" long, 29" tall, and 18" deep...

I guess to simplify my question, I have no idea what my options are as far as "unique" fish go for my tank... I know, it's only a 110, but I figure it will give me something to start with... :)

I'd like something that would be cool to sit back and watch, not something that you won't see... Something I could have share the tank with other fish would be nice as well... Some sort of amusing feeding would be cool, but not absolutely necessary. I'm just looking for something interesting that I can just "sit back and enjoy"... I haven't bought any filtration(I've got some in my garage, but it's been sitting and I'm just going to replace it all) or lighting, as I want to customize it for whatever the needs of the fish I choose are... I'm not looking to spend $100 per fish or anything, so please keep that in mind....

I appreciate all of the help guys... If you need any more info from me, I'm here...

How about a predator tank? You could have bichirs, knife fish, goby, and south american characins. Eh?

Alternatively, you could do a tank that centers around something really really cool, like a scarlet pleco or 3-becon pleco. Then just get tankmates for your pride and joy. Of course, these would be expensive, but the rest of the tankmates don't have to be.

Another option: Native fish. I've never bought from them, but Jonah's Aquarium has some information on native fish tanks. Personally, I'm intrigued by the thought of a coldwater tank.

Finally, you could do a straight up huge community tank with or without cichlids. There are tons of things you could do. Multiple kinds of tetras, catfish, top-dwellers, maybe some rainbow sharks or something, all darting in and out of a heavily planted (real of fake) tank with a really huge piece of driftwood in the middle. Might be pretty cool.

maybe some predators; fake gars, large catfish, knifefish, or a lungfish tank...
