Im looking for a big non aggressive cichlid to put in my tank. I really dont know anything about cichlids so Im hoping for some one to give me advice on what to get. Its a 190 gallon tank with som polypterus in it right know and the biggest around 20 inch.

I think some of the more laid back big boys are are bocourti, pearsi, lyonsi, to name a few. I've never kept them, but I've heard that chocolates are pretty laid back.

I agree with Rich on the bocourti, pearsi, and chocolates. You could also add uaru to the list. Not sure on Lyonsi. I have some grow outs and found them to be pretty rough on each other. I had to separate them to keep the females alive.

Just as an fyi on the lyonsi. A very mild Amphilophus species. They do have some pretty high conspecific aggression, and males can be pretty hard on females. But as far as I can tell with my pair, these guys don't much bother anything else. Not in my tank, anyway. Of course, they are in there with an oscar, vontehillo, and female festae... all fish that can protect themselves pretty well.

All of that said, I certainly agree with the above that specifically, the bocourti or pearsi are ideal choices, as gentle giants, that can hold their own if anything tries to bully them, but otherwise, are puppy dogs.
