HELP ME. I WAS TOLD THIS WAS A PAULICA CATFISH!

I went to my LFS today and bought this awsome looking fish! Only thing is the name that they sold it to me under I can't find anywhere a "Paulica Cat". So I am turning to you guys for help. Here he is from arrival at my house to intro to his temp home. What kinda CAT is he?

it is a Jaú (Paulicea luetkeni )

Talk about a monster in the making. This cat is called Paulicea lutkeni. It'll grow large enough to make a RTC look like a cory cat. This Jau cat is a huge member of the family Pimelodidae. It can grow to over 5ft and weigh in excess of 220lbs.

That is going to be your only fish if you put him in with other fish. These cats are very aggressive and are known to kill and eat fish the same size if not bigger than they are. I would recommend putting him in a large tank by himself or with other non expensive large fish like pacu's or oscars. Given time he will eventually eat the oscars, but that will be a good feeder.

I had one and grew it up from a 1.5" baby to just short of 6" before I sold him.

Very hard cat and will eat anything. They have a very macho built, so it's a very strong fish.

I had to move it to a different tank because it was harrassing my tigrinus for territory.

The scientific name changed from Paulicea lutkeni to Zungaro zungaro.
