I'm pretty sure he's a red devil but it just looks a bit oddball to me. I had to have him though because I liked his color.

The shop I got it from wasn't exactly sure what it was either. He seemed to think it was a Midas/Red Devil hybrid.

It's still a juvi, probably around 3"

The looks dyed to me.. Even if it is a red devil, the color on the cheek is unatural IMO for any variation of the species.

I bought him from a reputable shop that doesn't sell glofish and whatnot but I guess it could be possible. Here is its other side. It has a red dot on it's forehead as well. The red near its gills and its body color is way more pronounced in the photo's than it is looking into the tank, maybe it's the flourescent light or my camera or maybe it is dye, I guess there is no way to really tell.

There is actually ;) if it is really dye, the color will completly go away within 6-8 months. Dye is not permanent.

i actually have one similiar to yours who is 6 inches and i got it from superway and i thought he was dyed but its natural mine has a faint tint of pink to on its face but its natural trust me
