My girlfriend bought these out of the rosy red minnow tank at Petsmart. Obviously they aren't rosy reds. Anybody have any idea what they are. She got 4 of them for less than 50 cents. Sorry for the picture quality. I still haven't figured out how you guys get these crystal clear pictures.

Sorry again for the pics. I literally ran the batteries out of my camera while also adjusting settings just to get some pics this clear. With time, I guess...

They're a species of sunfish, based on the elongated shape my best guess is that they're green sunfish (Lepomis cyanellus) but the pictures are to blurry for a positive ID.

Sunfish! For clearer pics, use the macro setting on your camera. The icon for that should look like a flower. To be specific, a tulip.

good call, green sunfish are illegal in florida;)

get better pics and then we'll be able to tell. from the pics id say either bluegill or pumpkinseed. the reason i say pseed is because it looks like theyve got some orange on them

I believe someone started a thread the other day with the same question. The fish was identified as a Green Sunfish, and from what I'm hearing the are quite common in the feeder shipments to places like Petsmart or Petco. Maybe they're getting their feeders from the same place?

feeders are bred in enormous ponds. maybe Sunfish are employed to keep population in check so that the feeders dont die as quickly.
