help me ID this gar please!!!

had to save this gar from the petshop today. the guy said he thought it was a south american gar??? its about 12in. and it was in a 20g tank. the guy sold it to me for $25 only. gud deal?

anyways, my main question is what kind of gar is this?

im new to gars so any other info would be great!

Not sure of the full size, at least 2' I believe. Yeah that is a good price. I just paid $35 for a 12in one two weeks ago.

how agro does it get?

is it possible to get a gar off of live food?

fyi its in one of my 180g. tanks right now...

(and yes i know i know.....i shouldve done my homework first but couldnt resist saving the guy)

Not sure what your first ? is.

Mine eats strips of smelt and freeze dried krill. The smelt though I have to put right in front of him or it will get stolen.

I didn't need to, he just took the strips when I flashed them in front of his mouth. He tried the krill all on his own.

No need to starve off of live like a pbass. Mine ate krill shrimp and scallops right away. Make sure there are no other agressive fish near him at feeding time or he will not get any. He can easily get to 3 feet and more in the right enviornment.also when you feed make sure your fingers are not too close to the top of the water or you will get bit, they snap quick for their food.
