In my 3 foot tank that has been set up about 4 months and the ph is normal the nitrates are 0 i change water every 3 weeks and salt at the rate of 2.5 t spoons per 5 gallons and my fish are dieing at random i have lost 1 3 spos gourami 1 sailfin mollie and 1 of my well loved red tail sharks and my favorite fish my black ghost is in the tank.

Okay, can i first confirm that all your fish are indeed Freshwater fish if i'm not mistaken? coz if that is the case, i do not see any reason for you to be needing to add any salt to the tank unless your trying to treat your fish for certain symptoms / problems.

Also, if you could possibly answer a few questions such as; what size tank you have, how many fish you have in there and how much water do you change each time as well as what's your other test results such as ammonia? the reason i ask this, is because you may need to change your water more often that once every 3 weeks coz of possible toxins building up that you don't know about?

BTW, Sorry for all the questions, just that the more answers you can give us, the better i'm sure people will be able to help you out with your problem.

would also like a nitrite reading and a list of filtration

whats normal ph? 7?

stocklist with fish sizes, would be helpful, i see youve listed what died, whats still in the tank?

while its draining i scrub and clean the filter, when its filling i watch

so i found this in another thread, and i must say, it explains the 0 nitrate reading, your tank is constantly cycling cause everytime you do a water change by scrubbing and cleaning your filter you killing off all the BB

do a bit of searching on the nitrogen cycle ^^ its 4am and im off to bed

Don't mess with the filters.
Not having any nitrate reading is a no no.
Like the last poster said don't scrub your filters, just rinse them off with water out of your own tank.
