Ornate Bichir : 26-28 Degrees C

Florida Gar : 43-28 Degrees N...N? What does N stand for? I'm only used to Degrees C

Climbing Perch : 22-30 Degrees C
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have baught an appropriate Heater for a 2 feet tank by 1 feet wide. My fish I have stated above aren't even a feet yet. Anyway, so this Heater will turn off and on itself to mantain the given temperature...I have baught it for parasites, my Climbing Perch seems to be the one bothered so much, Ornate Bichir scratches herself now and then but Florida Gar seems ok.

To increase the metabolism of the fish and to quicken the lifespan of the parasites...what is the temperature I am supposed to set it to? Tell me in Degrees C please.

Help me quick!:( and thank you very much!

I'd set it for about 27-28.

Is there a big tank ready to go for these dudes?

Thanks a lot! I am setting it now. And to answer your question, no unfortunately not yet. The Climbing Perch is about 6 inches long, Florida Gar about 8-9 inches and the Ornate Bichir is about there as well. I will be preparing a big tank for these guys.

Thanks again!

From your description I have to guess at about a 20 gal. tank?

I'm not trying to be rude here but you need a bigger tank right now!

Edit: Again, not to be a d***, but you do know that these are gonna get to a good size? And soon?

Yes I am very well aware, they need a new tank already. 20 gallon tank? I am not sure with the gallon thing but it is 2 feet long and 1 feet wide, thank you for your concern and yes I agree they need a new tank already. I am planning on this, been thinking of the location in my house I am going to set it, don't worry I won't let the Gar or the Bichir to touch the width of the tank. I want to go for a big tank for life right away instead of changing and changing.

Anyway, a sad story...I think my Florida Gar just went to check the heater and touched it with its snout and darted from there after tasting the heat...that's sad:( ...is there any case of fish dying from heater?

If you're asking for a setting to help rid parasites, such as ick, set the heater to 29C (85F). A week after the spots disappear, you can set a temp of 27C for a normal temp. A 24" x 12" tank sounds like a stock 20gal depending on height. The heater should provide 3 to 5 watts of power per gallon of water. A single 100watt or dual 50watt (better) heaters will provide all you need.
For the fish you've listed, the addition of a tablespoon of salt per gallon will aid in fighting fungal attacks and improve the overall health of your fish. An alkaline setup would also benefit them since these species predominantly inhabit waters in areas with heavy concentrations of limestone.

There is 7.5 gallons per cubic foot. A 2x1x1 tank is two cubic feet which is 15g.

Florida Gars that live here in Florida will live in the nastiest looking drainage canals when almost nothing else will. They are pretty hardy.

The gar is not the most flexible fish and will need more tank turning area than most fish. Just something to keep in mind when shopping for the next tank.

Worries over heater burn can be assuaged through the use of a heater guard. They're a $5 antidote to heater burn worries.

Congradulations... I haven't had to look up a word in awhile...It's nice to learn something new.

Thanks,

Never used a word-of-the-day calendar. I guess I retain a few dittys from reading a couple hundred books a year.
