Help Me Pick My New Computer!!!

I finally got a savings account and want to save for a new laptop. My computer now sucks, it has a 38 gb hard drive, 512 mb ram, and a pentium III processor. You get the idea. I want to get a laptop because I am going to college next year anyways and figure I'll need one. I want one that has at least 3 gb of ram, and 200 gb hard drive. I'm not dead set on a processor because the newest seem very expensive. I really really want a Mac but they're pretty expensive too.

I want it to be around 600-700 dollars. I know there are some computer people on here to help me out. I will be using it for downloading and uploading music, videos, and pictures as well as word processing and probably spreadsheet, and of course the internet. The hard drive size doesn't matter much I can always buy an external I guess.

If you're patient, keep your eye on slickdeals.net. They post crazy sales every now and then. I browse is daily and pick up whatever deals are too rediculous to pass up. Case in point, I picked up a Dell Mini for about $200 the other day

HP, Toshiba, and Dell all have laptops that perform well and meet your criteria in your price range. I've seen them all on sale for Christmas.

Most colleges will have student discounts. My school sells Macs for pretty cheap

Ew i have never gotten along well with mac's, i always prefer HP's, which you can find in many places for not too much, of course depending

I have an Inspiron 1521...it has 3gb of ram, 250mb hard drive, Intel Core 2 Duo T7500, 256 MB Nvidia graphics. I paid $1500 for it last Xmas...Ive seen very similar laptops from dell on sale right now for about $650. Check out Dell's refurbished/scratchand dent special section...my GF got a new laptop with very similar specs to mine(smaller graphics card and a 160gb HD) for $400 because it had a 1" long scratch in the black paint on the top of it.
