Help me pick the topic for my next speech

I am taking speech class at school right now. I have to do an informative speech that has to be between 5-7 mins. A few topics popped up into my mind but have not given it much thought. The three topics are native fish with a focus on sunfish, peppers (the kind you grow), or a mental illness like depression, schizophrenia or perhaps something more rare/odd. I know this is a fish site so there might be a bias, but if it were you and you were given these three choices, what would you pick? Thanks

I did a speech on invasive species specifically Lion Fish off the coast of Long Island. I got a very good response from that. There is also allot of info and theories about this topic online.

I would stay away from mental illness people are so thin skinned these days and everyone has a mental illness you are bound to offend someone.

Basically the instructor said that a good speech will be one that wows everyone and teaches them something they did not know. So I was thinking about geeking out on everyone and talk about fish or plants. But I am a little apprehensive about it cause I am afraid they might be bored or something like that.

Seeing you are in Cali the wow factor wont be as much as NY but telling Nyers there are venomous fish off there coast that people are getting stung it wowed people. The recommendation for getting rid of lion fish is fishing. So I handed out some Lion Fish recipes after my talk. People loved it.

when I took speech in college I did a speech about how to make pho. I brought all the ingredients and did a step by step. everyone loved it. some lady even asked me where to buy the ingredients so she can try it.

I also did a speech on common snapping turtles. I brought my pet snapping turtle as a visual and it was also a hit.

I'd say, do a speech on something that interests you and you should be fine.

if I had to do a speech right now, i'd probably do one on that parasite that controls a snail's mind and turns it into a zombie like state

if I had to choose from your choices I'd go with the fish

Mental illness. Start the speech with - "The first sign of mental illness is hair on the knuckles. The second sign is looking." LOL!

On a serious note, think about which topic you would like to hear a speech about, and which topic you are most comfortable with.

Pick something that you not only enjoy and know everything about but something that not a lot of people know anything about.

Imo peppers are sketchy...
if you do fish or mental illness you should pick a specific one that has a stigma or a common misconception...something that people THINK they know a lot about. The main focus and goal of your speech becomes simple then -- prove them otherwise. Make everyone very aware that they just learned something new and/or have adjusted their views and beliefs.
