On my boss:D

my boss michelle is planning to get a tank this place we all work at,she came to my house the other nite for dinner with other office peeps and rele got hooked up to all the fishes i had because i explained her everything i knew about them...
im planning on making her get oscars,as i always wanted to try and breed oscars but neva had a spare tank big enuff, and as they are hard to sex i should be buying about 4-5 of them for sucessfull pairing...
the tank will be in the main hall, and if they do breed im gonna take all the fry:ROFL:
lol....so anyways i need to knw a few things...
firstly, what fish should i make her take,if not oscars....i was thinking rays or arows, but breeding them aint my cup of tea...
then,if i do get oscars and suppose they breed, then are they caring parents? and will the other oscars eat the fry or will the parents protect them?
and its impossible to sex them....so i was thinking which other species they hybridise with?

also how about flowerhorns?
how to sex them and are they easy to breed?

cheers

If she is still a beginner in the aquarium hobby, get her something basic like livebearers, goldfishes. Arows and rays are for those who are experienced fish hobbyist. I'm not that experinced regarding oscars.
Most flowerhorn hobbyist can sex thier FH by the dorsal fins, if you see a black notch on the dorsal fin and the flowerhorn doesn't grow that much it is probably a female. They are easy to breed, the only problem in breeding is the casualties of both the parents. Most likely they will injure of kill each other in breeding, but it all depends on what species (or hybrid) it came from.

well she aint gonna be taking care of them....i am...the hall is connected to my office....she just needs a pretty looking fish...so dont worry abt taking care of them...
and im not gonna be taking rays or arows, coz as i said they are hard to breed....
i need to breed something there...something good...not convicts or guppies or other common fishes

oscars are a bit hit and miss some are good parents and some arent if you get a pair of good parents you can leave them with the parents for a month and treat them like you would any other fry eg. feed newly hatched brineshrimp and dont use a big powerfilter best to go with an air driven sponge.

thx mate
still have a few more questions....which other species do they hybridize with?

and how about green terrors or jaguars? they breed easy and frequent?

There were a pair of jags at an lfs i went to recently ang they were in with the fry and seemed to be taking good care of them but apart from that im not to sure.

aite...thx mate
lets c what others have to say..
just wanted to add....money is not a question...coz im not paying for it :P....i'll make her buy anything and keep the fry if i can make them breed
sounds wicked...i knw...but what the heck
