i gave away all my cichlids and added a few plants, with more to come . currently have 9 african knives. they are small and will more then likely max at 8 inches. (ZOMG 9 foot long fish?????...no, not here.tanks)

so anyways...the fish would have to get along with my knives and be plant-friendly.

i was thinking of a few albino senegal bichirs (like 2-3)

i wanted something appealing for top though. too much surface agitation for butterfly fish.

also, i was thinking of doing a large school of tiger barbs.

African brown knives? You should post a pic. I've always loved species specific tanks. The senegals will swim around frequentely but not as much on the top as you would like IMO. Tiger barbs if big enough to not get eaten from the knives or attacked would look nice. They get to a decent size for a smaller fish and show good coloration in groups. You could feasibly IMO get 5-10 in there. They don't use that much room. They are known as fin biters nippers though, so keep an eye out on the knives. I'm not sure how fast knives can move. Your tank will be stocked quite well if you did this combo, but who's tank isn't. Get good filtration and you will have an amazing tank. :)

this picture is horrible unless you can zoom in some how. you can see a few under the log on the bottom.

ill try to snap some better ones tomorrow

Nice tank. I can see some. They look small...ish. I'm no expert on Tiger Barbs but if they don't eat plants or will nip too much if you had alot I really think they would work. Hopefuly someone else can chime in on that part. They have albino, green and the normal tiger barbs that I know of. You would think they would school regardless since their all tiger barbs and if so a few diff types would look good. Let some others get into the thread though see what they say.

Nice knives. Also like the gravel, look like it's a mix of some kind. Do they swim around each other? Like in a school?

gota get more gravel for the plants.

yea they always stay together in a group, occassionally there is a hierarchy sscuffle, but that happens with fish even such as barbs.

african knives are social

I would think tiger barb's nipping could be a problem, never really liked them so I have no actual exprience with this. For top dwellers a school of silver hatchets would look nice and they enjoy a good current.

Tiger barbs may nip the plants. Try Black ruby barbs they are a lot prettier than the tigers imo. All the barbs will school regardless of color type. Ever think of congo tetras?
