Help me set up a koi pond

I will be setting up a koi pond soon for my koi that are out growing my 125 so I need to find a good filter for a either pool pond or a stock tank I was thinking a trash can filter or a sand filter, I maybe will do a 1,500ish pool pond and I need to find the good filter for it and it will be in basement so I can’t drain clean as I don’t want a big piece of pvc going through my basement

For koi I find home made filters work well if you don’t mind the regular maintenance. Essentially two types or combination. Those which hold water and those which don’t. Ie. Return pipes at the bottom or part way up/at the top. I tend to prefer those which don’t so use various grades of matting to catch debris above baskets of alphagrog or similar with a decent water flow through uv inlet with spray/ aerated feed.
works well for smaller koi but my bigger ones in the bigger pond require something a bit beefier.

The koi are different, he loves them
Kinda need the pond soon they are outgrowing soon it will be unhealthy

He bought the 125 there In now, he only really likes the koi
