So, after you catch your breath from my amazing art work - here is my question.

Basically I have it set up like the pic.. intakes in the middle, spray bars to the sides, flow facing up. The filters are eheim 2075 pro3s, the tank is 90 gallons. The current is pretty strong throughout the tank, so I faced the bars up to create surface disturbance for air exchange.

However, i've learned that without any kind of bottom disturbance whatsoever, there is .. gunk build up on the bottom. I syphon it, but it got me thinking there is a better way. I have a sand substrate that is easily disturbed.

I also have a powerhead, but with the huge over filtration my fish were getting blown all kinds of directions with it.

Any input is appreciated.

i run 4 canisters on a 135 all with spray bars. Two face across the surface like yours but slightly diagonally, and the other two blow backwards and down the back wall of the tank. This way there are always currents keeping most wast suspended and no need for addition power heads. Plus there is not so much current that the fish can't get a break.

Since you are using 2, maybe try pointing one down and back and see if it helps. Other than that, i usually give the sand a quick once over with the gravel van when changing water
