GF took the Chiclid's, I have a freshly cleaned (vinegar/water) freshwater setup ready to go at 125gallons. Bare empty tank, need everything from substrate recommendations to plants, to decor etc.

Also, fish ideas :) I am definitely interested in some form of piranha's. Not sure if I should do a single in a tank this big, I do love blacks but seems wasteful to have 1 fish in my primary tank. (After overstocking chiclids especially).

Also noticed that Aquascapeonline is doing a 5 Caribe for $100 deal, seems really good. Could I do like 5x Caribe and a pleco or two? Or maybe some flying foxes that could hopefully survive?

Any thoughts/feedback/comments/suggestions are much appreciated, I will post some pics of the tank once I get it up and filled.

Cheers!

You cant keep any fish with piranha lomg time period.

Caribe will need at least a 2 foot width for life but will be ok in a 125 for a while

Some piranhas tear up plants so it depends on individual personality. Ive noticed younger pygo groups are fine with plants and once older they may take a few rips here and there.

If you planing on not upgrading then i would start with 10 baby red bellies since they usually hit 10-12 inches max.

Once they get larger a group of 5-7 will work out nicely for life

Also make sure u have very good filteration and keep up on waterchanges.....they are messy fish

As far as plants are concerned, I would stick with java ferns and anubias. They are pretty much care free. Just be sure not to bury the rhysomes or they will die. When I had red bellies, they would sometimes take a bite out of the plants here and there. If you have any issues with algae, I have had good luck with nerite snails. I have them in my tank now, and my serra ignores them.
