Hello all. This is my first post and am happy to have found this website.

I have a three month old 125g (72.5" x 18"). It cycled for 6 weeks with 5 neon tetra, 1 danio, and 2 ghost shrimp and is in what i think is perfect chemical state.

I currently have 6 balla's, 3 small angel fish, 5 neon tetra, 1 danio, 2 ghost shrimp, 3 med size cory cats, 1 pleco (unknown specific name; was said to only grow to about 4-5") and 1 molly (male).

I have 10 swords, some christmas moss, and some grass (unknown name).

WHAT I WANT TO DO:

I would like to eliminate most of my fish down to my school of balla's and a med size school of bigger tetra.

I am also looking to get rid of my plants and create a medow landscape.
I would like to have the entire bottom of my tank covered in grass to imitate a wheate field (but green) and build a tree covered by weeping moss to imitate a beautifull hanging tree.

MY QUESTION:
I have not used any fertilizers and do not currently use an appropriate light set up for the tank. What would be the best type of grass (angel hair grass???) to use and how do I plant it in order to achieve what I want?

I understand that I should be using a ratio of about 2.5-4 wpg (any corrections would be nice) and need to be using a proper fertilizer and mineral base. I have black rocks that didn't mention any minerals were added. Do I need to remove the rocks and use a better substrate or can I add the proper chemicals/minerals?

I understand grass is more delicate but do I really need c02 injection if I plan on having probably 20 fish (balla and tetra) and 10 or so shrimp living in the grass? Will the fish create all the c02 i need?

I understand this was probably too long but would appreciate an expert to take the time to hook me up. I'm tired of shop guys (even at good shops) trying to sell me sh*t that seems useless.

Thank you to all who help

wont balas demolish plants

they haven't seem to yet. i have had them in with my pretty thick planted tank and they only seem to bite at some alge growth. otherwise they leave them be

For starters, welcome to MFK.

Since you are going the route of a planted tank, I strongly suggest you check out the "Planted Tank & Aquascaping" section of MFK.

I also have a 72" x 18" and am working on the same thing you are. If you post this in that section of the forums, you will get some awesome answers. Also, I would suggest you browse around PlantedTanks.net. I was referred there yesterday and found it very helpful.

When it comes down to Co2, I would suggest you get it. Especially with the grass. If you want an excellent write up on it, check the following link out. JCardona1 posted it yesterday, and it really helped. Post you questions on Co2 and I am sure he will help you out.

Here is a great tool for lighting...

JCardona1 helped me yesterday in deciding what I needed and what is a good product as far as lighting. This is what I was referred too. I would be purchasing 2 of these for my 72" tank.

As far as fertilizers for you plant, I use Saechems products. I find them to be pretty good. Works great on my 40 gallon.

Hope this helps and good luck! Post pics as you go!

thank you for your help. what do you think of the biological c02 set up ie: gallon jug, sugar, and yeast set ups?

i am reaching my threshold on money and need to find ways to make this cheaper

I honestly know nothing about it. I can definitely relate on the spending too much money part though. I strongly suggest you check out that first link to the planted tank section. You will find most of you answers there. If I am not mistaken, there is someone asking about DIY Co2 on there and is getting help.
