I was going to write my paper on captive breeding aquarium fish and how the fishkeeper and the environment can benefit from it.

I had already started writing and doing research and when I came in to class monday hte teacher started talking about reality shows that he liked and then he said we have to all write our papers from the opposite point of view or opposing argument.

Now my paper is not captive breeding aquarium fish can benefit the environment and the fishkeeper.

I can't think of any logical reasons that would prove this true, but I thought of a ton of emotional/opinion arguments.

Can anyone tell me why w/c is better than captive bred?

Captive breeding has harmed certain species of fish in ways.

Now Im not going to do your HW for you but look into these points;

Massive (commercial) captive breeding reduces the gene pool creating a weaker individual fish. Guppies and mollies are a great example of this.

Man made variations of fish such as betta splendens have pretty much wiped out the enitre 'wild' population of betta splendens.

Hybridation from captive breeding has made species to species identification difficult and perhaps has even caused the extinction of some pure bred species in the hobby. This is especially true in African cichlids.

Then you can argue that captive bred fish are kept in horrible conditions because of man's greed for many, but then Id have to call you a whinney bleeding heart liberal PETA person!

I think JD7 just did your work for you LOL

Oh thank you, I was brainstorming on monday in my journal just like freewriting or whatever, and I thought of the inbreeding being the most hard and fast scientifically sound argument, so I figured it would be last. Then I thought other weak arguments could be something like feeding live food and having wild fish is more of a learning experience (thats a huuuuge stretch), and then uh that its a purist thing.

One thing i wantd to get into which is interesting tha tyou stated it to is hybridizing/selective breeding.

I had found an aquaarticle today int eh computer lab when i was looking this up and i checked here to see if anyone had replied, and thank you jd for that, and I thought of how it leads to people demanding more from the fish such as sick hybrids, or dyed fish, or tails cut off, since they become more man made and lose the impression of a wild animal and turn more into a product.

Do you think that last topic could be a strong emotional argument?
