i have Victorians you need 1 male and 3 or more females same goes for any or most African's,you need rocks also....if this don't work, you should breed S/C.American's.:Dgood luck..

given my space, one male im sure will be all i can do. i do breed some CA/SA's but this sounds like a good idea with the 30. Im really looking for species suggestions... will pool filter sand work with some rocks i collect from a lake side? i know they like a higher pH and this wont really supply that, although i know most are CB and quite tolerant of any pH.

I use coral sand for PH...nothing-ls,,,,,i have fulu's-bluebar's-and more, i am sure you can get some from pet shops or members from MFK....if you need help let me know....i dont know how much you want to spend...never use pool sand for African's its a waste of money....as far as rocks go i use lava rocks for holding better bacteria. If you diside to get rocks from the lake, make sure you boil that rock.....good luck!

I think for a 30 gallon you are better of breeding either dwarf mbunas like the cynotilapia varieties such as cobue

or my favorite which I want :) the Pulpican

or you could do Shellies from Tanganyika!!
