Hi all, my adult milk snake has had diarrhea now for about 3 weeks.
Recently I changed his food from f/t mouse pups to rat pinkies. Initially he refused them but soon started to take 3 at each feeding. This continued for about 1.5 months. All of a sudden he starting taking only 1 and came down with diarrhea. I don't know why. Should I not feed him pinkies? I have also heard they may be too fatty but don't know if the source is credible.
The snake does not have mites, wounds, wheezing, discharge or any visible problems that I can see. Any thoughts?
thanks

My only guess would be the pinkies don't have enough substance compared to the mice.

With pink mice and rat pups, all the good stuff is not developed on them, like bones, organs, skin, hair, etc...
as Falazo said, no substance, just alot of water content.

I would feed him, young adult or adult mice.
Also alot better for your snake nutrition wise also.

I wouldnt feed him pinkies of any kind if he is capable of taking larger meals.

Alot of people feed rat pups to their animals without them getting diarrhea, maybe a little softer/ mushier stool,( this is what I notice) but not actual diarrhea, its possible your snake has some internal problems and needs to see a vet.

What is the history of this snake?
Were did it come from?
How long have you had it?
Did it have any diarrhea before you changed its food?

I would switch to a more developed prey item as I said in my earlier post, give it a little bit of time and see if the stools tighten up.
If not, take him to a good reptile vet.

Thanks for the input guys.
the snake is a Pueblan Milk, adult male, about 2.5 feet. I've had him for about 3 years, got him as a juvie about 10 inches long, bought from exotic pets in Las Vegas. it got diarrhea for the first time ever after I changed its food. the diarrhea wasn't immediate though. it took about 3 weeks or so of eating the rat pinkies before he came down with diarrhea and will now only eat one per feeding session.
Originally he always ate mice hoppers and small mice. I wanted to switch him to rats so I figured I would start small and offer pinkies. If he liked them I was gonna later try something bigger like a rat hopper, maybe pup

Sounds pretty much diet related,
try going back to small mice just to get him right again, them, after some time you can try a rat pup or rat crawler and see how that goes.
