:confused::confused::confused: i just got this oceanic 175 gallon bow front tank off craigslist. it leaks on the bottom front seem in the middle. it leaks about a gallon or two a day. dose anyone know what to say to oceanic to get them to warranty it out. or dose anyone know if it is safe to attempt a repair on a tank this large. if so how? and shout i resale or rebuild the tank?
thank you in advance for your help

depending on how old it is oceanic might not do anything about it. i just resealed a 58 gallon oceanic that had the same problem. youl need to remove all the old silicone out of the inside of the tank. dont take the glass apart, just remove all the inside stuff. it has to be super cleannew silicone wont stick to old stuff then wipe everything down with acetone and your ready. i use GE#1 silicone make sure it DOES NOT have the bio seal label. masking tape helps to make a uniform bead also.

I just had to do a 75g Marineland, it wasn't hard at all, just a little time consuming, takes a few days. For a 175g you might need 4 or 5 11oz tubes of silicone, probably about $50. Do Oceanic tanks have a build date written on the inside of the tank frame? Might give you some idea if they will warranty the tank. Mine was built in 1992 so there was no way they could warranty 16 year old silicone.

Oceanic has a lifetime warranty on all there tanks. You just need the original reciept and an oceanic stand.

They send you a new tank.

What joedodge said.
reseal the entire inside,not just the leaky part.time consuming but worth it.

Absolutely correct.

I doubt the craigs list owner has the receipt or warranty card anymore but it would be worth asking the seller to he/she does.

I have Truvu tanks that more than 20yrs old.....never a drop of water has leaked. Seaclear is another excellent tank maker.

thanks everyone.
i put a email and a call in to oceanic. we will see what happens there

is anyone concerned that the re-silicone job won't work due to the size and wight of the tank. if this were a 55g or less i won't question it but im scared of a blowout with the tank being 175g and being a bow front.
let me know your thoughts.
