your aro will probably be fine.. if it is over 7 inches or so it's pretty hardy..
trust in bderiks words. he is experienced enough to know. catfish are generally less tolerant to salt than other fish since they have no scales so be sure to dose no more than bderik said. and again, what are your parameters!!? if your parameters are of no salt or medication will help.

I would say the eye is just irratated, look close and make sure there is no damage. If so then, I would do nothing more then a couple of extra water changes. Keep an eye on it make sure it doesn't get any worse.
The API master kit is fine(the one I use) but far from the best, Would be good to do a search or start a new thread for that question. That is a pretty good stock list, they will generate quite a bit of waste so keep a close eye on your water parameters, if and when problems arise you'll be glad that you have a handle on the water parameters.
