ok I have a 100g set up with just a few small cichlids in a extra tank I set up a few weeks ago.... its just a grow out tank for when my pond is ready and I wanna fill up my 300g when they get bigger anyway... its only set up a few wweeks and I look in the the tank there is little eggs all over the side of the tank...... my convict cichlids are after having babies!!! there only juvies all the fish are only an inch to two inches I have a green terror two convist cichlids, two electric yellow cichlids and a crayfish in the tank..... I have no idea how to look after these babies... has anyone had a similiar experience?? I want to keep the babies but need to know how to look after the eggs and basically everything!!! Help!! Sue :)

I think in a 100g you would be ok to just leave them. The convicts should be able to protect them. You might want to watch the crayfish though. Just leave them in there, and if it doesn't work out, you'll have another batch in a couple weeks. Just remove the babies into a 10g, and set up a sponge filter.

Yeah try not to freak out. Cichlids are known for being (for the most part) great parents. I would give a vary wide range of small foods once the babys hatch. Crushed flake works but live baby brine shrimp and other small shrimps are better. Good luck and enjoy being a cichlid owner. Breeding is part of owning when it comes to keeping these awsome fish.

ok guys thanks for the advise..... gonna upload some pics of the happy family now..... the crayfish seems to have completely nuts he was found this morning in te middle of the sitting room :screwy: he escaped from the tank weirdo.....

My cutteri have also just bread at a really tiny size...I think the female was about 1.5 inches. I definitely agree not to worry about the babies, at even such a small size my guys have been great parents. I've been using hikari first bites for the fry and they seem to love it, they've been growing like a storm. Its been 5 weeks or so and they're already about 1cm long.

Haha no shame in their game....all on the front glass!!

I know I cant believe it an they are only in there a few weeks... when I decided to build a pond for my RTC wanted to build a nice cichlid tank to fill up my 300g again when everyone in there moves to the pond... hope this works out ok..... no shame at all... I wouldnt mind I have loads of caves and stuff in there for them but they decided the front of the tank was the best place......

Got any wrigglers yet?

ya loads there must be at least twenty thrity of them there , its crazy you can even make out little eyes developing its really cool to watch them..... some eggs are still on the side havent hatched what yet think I should do? or do I need to do anything at all?? I dunno.... seem to be getting on ok though....
