I believe that my blood parrt has been stricken with swimmers bladder disorder/disease! Last night I noticed that my BP was acting kind of weird, swmming to the corners of the tank. Then I woke up this morning and though for sure the fish was dead. Luckily when I touched him with my net, he woke up and started swimming around. I believe its S.B.D. because he only eats dried krill and of course sucks air from the top of the water.

What do I do???

I've heard epsom salt may help.
I just did a water change.
I noticed he pooped.
Any medicine that I can add?

Thank you in advance! :nilly:

Here's a photo of him. I'd like to save him (or her) because its a nice looking BP thats rather large.

do you have air line n tank..I imagine you do, but please let me know.

It sounds like stupid question i know.

It may not be SBD....SBD is usually when they are still upright and swimming. but can not swim down to tank bottom. He may have blockage internally.....Try to keep him upright and use epsom salt to clean out his system.....maybe best to inject medicated food into his stomach.

or you can try just dosing tank with the epsom salt at 1/2 teaspoon for every 10 gallons. Hope everything turns out all right!! He looks like a very nice parrot!

also...what are you water parameters? Are they all in line?

Right now the BP is moved into my fish hospital, there isn't an air line in it but one can be added quickly.

Also, I've added TMT...Trimehcazuza or whatever its called which I bought from my LFS along with fish salt.

I haven't checked the water parameters, I've been doing the same water changes for a year or so. (15-20% with dechlorinator)

add air line and I would dose with epsom salt...he may be bound up and epsom salt acts purgative (it will purge his stomach) and make him poop everything out.

my FH has bloated belly and have been using 1tablespoon epsom salt every 10g..and he hasnt pooped yet...i put it in yesterday

hope it works for you good luck....

What is Trimehcazuza?

RD has a thread on how to use the epsom salt in the food if the fish is still eating it is better that just adding to the water. Also but not really recomended is removing some the air from the swim bladder with a needle and syringe. I read up alot on fish anatomy and the location on the swimbladder b4 tring it. I did it for my white xxl midas and it worked but caused alot of stress on me and the fish but he pulled through and is back to normal. I hope all works out for you...
