help!

my cray is a baby and he seems to be stiff, hes not moving much, hes on his side and he has been expelling(on and off) brown fluid out his mouth:eek:.

please tell me if hes moulting or DIEING! :(

Pics? What are the water parameters? Tank size and tankmates?

Will move this temporarily to FW Inverts so other crayfish enthusiasts such as Yabbadoo and black_sun will have better answers for you on this.

Never heard about the brown fluid, but being on the side, and stiff and whatnot might be molting.

Maybe a picture would help.

Is he moving his legs around slowly, and curling his tail? (while on his side)

I've only seen one pic of fluid being expelled from the crays mouth area.
I believe it was urinating??? Yes...peeing out the mouth ....lol

The urine is usually transparent. the pic was using a die colour.....
Was noticed when two crays were fighting so he may be stressed out???

Is he ok now???

Hmm, that doesn't sound good. Try to get some pics if he's still alive. I'm not sure about crayfish, but with other invertebrates (namely insects), when dark fluid is being expelled from the mouth... there's generally some internal damage of some kind.

If he's still alive, isolate him from any tankmates, check your water params and wait and see. Have you added any medications or treatments to your tank lately? Some medications have metals in them which are toxic to inverts, and can cause some devastating symptoms/behaviors/etc before death.

tanks a 1 gallon

bunch of planted rocks and an under gravel filter...

no he was diein from the tap water and temp shock i think.

were do i go to get some test kits? im going to go get a ten gallon today as a (grow)tank(meaning you put baibies in it and they grow) with another older sibling of his and a baiby gupy. i have a ten gall under grav. so...

also there was ALOT of floating sand like you could see an INCH in at best.

Got no idea??? Might be just a response to the fighting/stress???
Maybe it comes out the back end in normal day to day cray life???

The cray that wins the fight expells much more urine than the loser. (Marking his territory)

The more urine....the more chemicals released into the water saying....I'm the King Baby, Shack up with me tonight......:naughty:
