He has a 10" Oscar and 6" jag, he had a synodontis lace catfish that died yesterday at only 2 years old, and the Oscar and jag yesterday weren't moving and were rarely breathing. Today, the jag is alright, but the Oscar is sitting in the same spot at the bottom and is now breathing very heavily about 2 times every 3 seconds. His mouth is gasping a bit and his gills are fully flaring up. We have plenty of aeration so that's not the problem. He did a water change yesterday after 2 weeks, so nitrates dropped and ammonia probably did a little but now nitrates are at 20, everything else is 0. We have softer water and ph is 7.2. Water temp is 81

I would drop the temp to about 78. Doesn't need to be that high. And recheck the water parameters.
