I got my daughter a baby milk snake for her b-day a six weeks ago....Snake seemed fine...ate very well. Over the last week the snake is listless and we found mites. Had to have been on the snake from the shop. We only feed frozen food....new tank ect. How can I cure the little guy?? Thanks!!

I recommend picking up ZooMed Mite Off. I've used it on a few snakes I picked up that had mites and for the ones that come into my store infested from the vendors.
The product works very well, after a few treatments there's no sign of mites. I also use this in the enclosures after they've been cleaned out, before putting animals back into them.

mineral oil... this will also help if the snake has any issues shedding. same concept as veggy oil but it won't get nasty. Under the chin is usually where the worst of it is, I sometimes used petroleum jelly in severe cases. The goal is to cover the mites so they suffocate and die. newspaper for bedding, and clean the tank daily until the mites are gone. I found a white vineagar solution dissuades the mites and is alot safer then bleach or other harsh chemicals. to keep them from returning I use the yellow pest deturents.. they look like a poptart.. it's been awhile since I kept reptiles.. but they worked like a charm and as long as your pet doesn't get into contact with the pest strips no issues. I use to hang them behind the tank, and use a background so you never saw it. At work we use to cut it into 1" squares and set them on the top screen in the enclosures.
