I've finally decided to dive head long into this project. I've been lurking on this forum for some time just trying to learn as much as I could before actually jumping into this one. while I was visiting my parents last weekend, I found this little gem for all of $20 at the LFS by my parents. It's a standard 55 gallon. I plan on running a Cichlid tank and I have a pretty good idea of how I want to set this sump up, but I would still like to hear everyone's opinions. I also want to keep this as neat in appearance as I can so I don't have an ugly eyesore every time I open the doors.

Here's the tank:

The gentleman I bought it from said it was 100 gallon, but the measurements (60L x 18D x 18T) comes out to about 85. It's half inch glass, so inside dimensions come out to around 73G.

Here's the sump before I started to clean it:

I finally got most of the silicone out. all that's left to do is clean and scrub it out really well. What would all you tank guru's recommend for cleaning out the sump and tank?

That is pretty much where I sit for right now. I want to get this done as fast as possible, but between school and work, there just isn't enough time in the day. Plus I really want to get this done right, so time isn't an issue on this project. Anyway.. thanks for any help you guys might give me. :)

To clean the tank I would recommend Mr Clean Magic Erasers.

I would look at a couple filter socks for the first compartment. Then some large sponges for the following compartment or two. Maybe some Seachem Matrix for the remaining two compartments before the refugium.

Sounds like you scored a heck of a deal!
