Hey, my ebjd is turning yellow. He doesn't come out and eat and just hides in his cave!! What is going on?!!

He is about 3 inches and is in a 60 gallon tank. I used to have other cichlids in there but I took them out because the ebjd was getting bullied. So he is by himself with like 2 tiger barbs and some giant danios. I wanted him to get comfortable by himself before I add any other cichlids.

Yesterday, I noticed that my ebjd was not eating and just hiding in his cave. I did a 25% water change. I never tested for pH so I bought a test strip and tested for pH. Looking at the color, it said a pH of 8.5 to 9, hardness was like a ppm for 240 to 300, nitrite is 0, nitrate is like 20/40, and temp is 76/78. I thought he was sick because the pH was kind of high and so I bought a Seachem pH regulator. I tested again, and the pH went down alittle bit but not 7 and the water hardness went down alittle too.

This morning parts of his body was yellow! mostly around the upper parts of this body, above the eyes and fins. After a couple of hours, some of it has faded and he still doesnt eat. Also I've noticed that around his stomach area, the parts that arent blue or white, its like red. (like small circles/ovals, it looks natural and its been there for awhile so i thought noting of it)

So what the heck is going on?? I'm pretty new to this and I do not want my ebjd to die! help!!

An Electric Blue Jack Dempsey, (i just got one today btw, 1- 1.5 inch) I'm sad to hear your story but, even sadder, i cant help, but there are defintitly people on this forum who will

I've had him for like 2 months now. I put in a couple tiger barbs about a month ago. I used to have other fishes but took them out so my EBJD can grow without being bullied. the water temp is 76/78.

I have kept my JD in a pH of about 8.2 for over a year now with no problems.

I have no clue what the problem is, but you may find an answer faster if you can include a pic.

Tiger barbs are hardier than young electric blue dempsey's. So it's possible that they carried a parasite that didn't seriously effect them, but is now effecting the ebjd. Ebjd's are are very sensitive to pathogens etc untill they are larger than 4 inches,
