Hello I have a marineland penguin 350 and the motor will not stop making noises. It sounds like the impeller is scratching against the plastic. It's very loud and I need this filter to work so any help is very much appreciated thanks in advance
Hello; Impeller noise is a common problem. If you are lucky it is a bit of gravel or snail or such in the impeller chamber. A simple cleaning may do the trick.
Sometimes just removing the impeller assembly and re-installing can help.
Often things get worn and there is little to be done but to replace the impeller.
Yeah check the impeller, I had one of these a few years ago get some sand in it ,by the time I realized what it was the sand had completely chewed up the rod that the impeller rides on.
Most impellers need to be regularly cleaned.
Each time you rinse the mechanical media, it is a good idea to rinse off the impeller, and rinse out the area where it sits in the filter housing.
One grain of sand can cause the noise you notice, and do a lot of damage
I agree with everyone I personally damaged a new Marineland filter when a grain or two of sand was sucked in the intake tube. Take filter off and remove impeller apply Petroleum Jelly on the magnet and rod. Hopefully this will reduce the noise.
