I recently moved, and my 300g only has a wet/dry drip, and I think the bacteria died when I moved, and I have been having trouble getting the tank to cycle properly ever since. It has been over a month, and I have been doing water changes a lot. I had to leave about a week ago, and was not happy with the tank, but did two water changes in the 48 hours before I left, and added a bunch of activated carbon to the sump. Well, yesterday I got a picture of my tank and its cloudy and green. I asked and the light has not been left on, which I know can contribute to this problem (the green part at least). I ordered an FX5 online to be delivered next week, and am going to have a friend set it up, as I will not be returning for another 7 days. Besides a water change, what can be done to help this tank last until either I get home or the FX5 is up and running? Mind you the person who is going to be working on this tank has no fishkeeping experience and a limited budget (unless I buy stuff online and have it delivered). I am embarassed for having my tank get this bad, but never have has this much trouble with a tank before. Thanks for anyone that can help

I would get your water tested to see if its ok, then I would wait for the FX5 to arrive and hook it up asap...Looks to me like the tank just needs more filtration and the water needs to be tested. After you get the water tested, you should know whether or not you need to get your aquarium up to the appropriate levels. The FX5 will be a huge help also, good luck!

I have wondered about the sunlight thing as it is a room with three large windows facing one end of the tank, but I keep the blinds closed. As far as the salt, I have thought about that in the past just for gp, but am worried cuz I have a lungfish and heard that scaleless fish dont do well with salt in the water. And yea the FX5 will clean it up im sure, its just a waiting game for it to show up. Even if all the bacteria on the bio balls died in transit, shouldnt they have come back by now and the tank cycled, or can too high of a bioload prevent a tank from cycling?

It's a type of free floating green algae. If the tank gets direct sunlight, get a UV on it. Should clear in a couple days.

OK I will try that out. Also, the lighting setup on this tank is two 48" 10,000ks and two 48" UV bulbs. Im guessing I should swap out the UV bulbs as that is not helping the situation either
