IF you remember the Free Arowana thread.. theres the dying arowana thread...

The injured arowana is not doing well..

I have no idea if he is stressed or if he has internal bacteria infection..

As i mention before.. a few days ago... I had a bala shark that I got for free from petco.. and it was missing an eye.. he was fine for a few days and somehow he died...

The bala shark had no previous injury.. I'm assuming the Arowana killed it because it thought it was a meal...
Also.. one of my friend brought me 3 other Bala shark.. they are still currently in the tank.. but the arowana didnt react anything badly to it..

And then yesterday he was sorta on the top of the water just swiming and not eat.... I had thought he was pass the point of crickets and he was starting to eat Arowana sticks...

But then one day ago.. he stopped eating.... Today i bought some crickets again.. along with stress coat and did a 25% water change....

So far temperature is at 82 degrees.. normal for the weather i'm in.. its about 52 degrees outside.. so 82 is the best i can get it with one heater..
I dont want to use another heater since thats just overkill for one fish..

I've also added bacterial infection medicine again just to be safe..

Now for the real symptoms..

The arowana is swimming.. but it almost seems like he doesnt have much energy to swimming.. he is sinking agian.. proving that he's very weak..
There is no visible bacteria on him or white spots or anything else.. Just the wound he has since i got him...

He was eating a few days ago.... RIGHT now he is inside a small feeder bucket so he is not in danger of sinking.. He is also right next to the airstone and the heater.. so he should be ok..

BUT He is breathing a lot more than he used to.. I pray that he will be ok..

I also think the Bala shark is stressing him.. cuz they have far more energy swimming than he (the arowana)...

I hope me makes it thru... I've done everything i can think of... I think the next step maybe to remove the Bala Shark.. but.. i'm cautious about that too. since i have no additional heaters.. I do have a 10 gallon.. but with no heater....

I really have no idea if its internal bacterial infection or something else.. He is now swimming upside down and doing flips.. NOT NORMAL..

I believe that he has been infected with some bacteria and has been sick ever since he was inside that tank from the fish store.. but he might now make it..

Here are some pictues:

thats not good.

is the silver missing any scales?

are the balas still in the tank? are they ok? showing any signs of sickness?

and i wouldnt suggest putting balas with aros, i know my 22" silver would flip out if i had sharks in there. way to much fast movement.

maybe thats it then.... he was doing fine.. but man.. too many possibility

But i'm pretty sure its bladder infection now.. he's not swimming normally and his mouth keeps opening..

I'd go with isolating him again until he get better. Probably not a good idea to introduce any tankmates till he's fully recovered and of larger size. You also run the risk of introducing new infections/parasites to an already weakened aro. What size tank do you have him in again? And how big is he? If he recovers I'd suggest giving him plenty space to his own or fish that don't share his swim level (ie poly, loach, etc)

i remember adding id sharks to my jar's tank. my jar didn't like them one bit, had to take them out and eventually the jar was fine though. maybe your aro is infected with something but those sharks aren't helping him.

If hes doing flips and rolls and swimming upside down, its swim bladder might be busted.

mine had the same problem. she lost her appatite at around 7in. she started swimming weird too, her head was straight but her body was sloping down and she was very week. died a few days later despite dosing with salt and bumping temps. good luck

It looks like the stress from the added bala sharks pushed him past the limit. Thats all I can think of. Just try to keep him in shallow water. When the bladder is affected, there is often times little you can do to save him. Keep us updated.

I also think it may just be stress. Give the aro some time to adjust and heal. My jardini didn't eat for 2 weeks when I first got him but he came around and was quite healthy when I traded him in for an asian aro. You can also try adding a little salt to help him heal faster. As for food, my jardini only ate shrimp and my asian only super worms (or the occaisional piece of shrimp). Good luck.
