Okay, so my all three of my young longnose gar (4", 3.5", 1.5") have these weird white spine/bump things on their backs. The bumps appeared a few days ago and have increased in number by a few each day. I know that this isn't normal, but I'm not sure on an exact diagnosis. I was thinking ich, but after some reading I found that gars rarely get ich, so I'm not too sure of what they have.

They're in a 29 gallon aquarium with 2 botias, 2 cory cats, and a bunch of feeder guppies and rosy reds. I didn't quarantine the feeders as I should have because they had already been under quarantine at the stores I bought them at, so they should have been disease-free; the same goes for all of the other fish.

I started to treat their condition by raising the water temperature to 82 degrees Fahrenheit, adding 1 tablespoon of salt per 20 gallons, and doing daily partial water changes. I found this method of treatment in a previous gar disease thread, and it was listed as a general cure for most gar diseases.

Should I continue the treatment or adjust it in any way?

I will post pics ASAP (hopefully tonight).

Your treatment sounds good, but maybe you could provide some pictures so we can see how serious it is.

I would post pictures of them, but the bumps have almost completely disappeared and aren't noticeable in the photos I took.

Does this mean your gar are better?

They seem to be doing fine.

Their appetites are definitely good. I'm going through rosy reds at a rate of four to eight fish nightly (usually on the high side) between the two largest ones; I keep a school of them in their tank to ensure that they always have food. I separated out the smallest one and put it in with a bunch of little feeder guppies (I made sure that they were healthy) so that it has constant food availability (it looks pretty full now). I'm not going to take them off of live food because they're going into my pond once they get big enough, so they'll have to eat the many minnows and small fish that are in there.

hello, my spotted gar is sick to. it swallowed a small frog the other day then after few hours it vomited it out.. then the gar was like having a spasm or epilepsy and was turning it's belly up. i immediately helped it swim by holding it and moving it around the aquarium until it was swimming again. i then put it in a basin of water and salt solution and i left it there overnight.. i regularly changed its water solution.. after 3 days though, the spasm/epilepsy thing happened again... so i helped it again swim and put it in the bigger aquarium. I think the gar was poisoned by the frog. it's good that the gar vomited it out. i noticed also that the gar tail is lower, as if the back of the gar broke or something....PLEASE HELP.

What time of frog/toad was it?
