My 4-5" newt has been very slugish the past week and hasn't been eating. I've been feeding it Reptotreat suprema and repto min baby. I have noticed yesterday that he has become quite swollen and bloated. He's in a 20g long with a tetrafauna rock/waterfilter. His tank is cleaned weekly and consists of java moss and small anubias. I have river rocks and laterite soil. I've had him for about 2 months. He was given to me by a friend who had him for about a year. I have just been following his instructions but I do more water changes.
Please help me out with any advice you may have. As this is my first reptile pet. Thanks

same thing happend to mine when I had one 10 yrs ago. I read some where that it may have been handled too much. they absorb toxins through the skin . There was nothing I could do for it.

I found out that a bacteria can also cause this bloating. If its that, tank must be bleached and air dried and rinsed well before puting him back in. I read that they can recover from this.

I lost one this summer when the weather changed from warm to cool, and the building decided to turn on the heat. They supposedly do better at slightly lower temps, and high temps can increase their chances of illness-or that's what I was told. I haven't tried again, though. Good luck, hope he makes it!

Newts will get demolished by my modestus :) They look cool, though.

PS: Newts are amphibians

WTF!? Just trying to get some answers dude. Cute beginners collection of fish by the way. PS: Learn the names of your fish. You seem ignorant.
