Two days ago I put a jd with my wolf fish to see how it would do with tank mates. Yesterday I noticed the wolf attacked the jd and made a loud bang. Really thought the jd moved before did any damage but this morning I noticed a piece of gill hanging out of its gill plate. The jd seems fine eating well very active still and away from the wolffish for good. Can someone tell me how can I help or if this will even heal. View attachment 961196View attachment 961197

If it is still with the wolfish obviously move it to another tank. If it seems to be acting fine and eating well I wouldn't do anything directly to the JD. If you want to be cautious Add a tablespoon of AQUARIUM salt for every 5 gallon of water change (add some to the tank if you normally dont add salt to your aquarium). It should be ok with just the salt. If you are extremely worried it wouldnt hurt to add some Melafix for three consecutive days to prevent infection. GL

What about the flap of flesh hanging off? I just leave it?

Personally I wouldnt touch it. Imagine if this happened in the wild? No one is there to cut it off for the fish. The wound will eventually heal on its on. Not only will doing something with the flap probably not help the healing process it may even be detrimental causing more damage. Again, this is only my opinion.

Will it fall off on its own or just heal like that?

The jd has been doing well. The flesh that is hanging has turned brown and looks ready to fall off. He's been eating well on nls. I also had to move him back with the wolf cause my 15 sprung a leak. I didn't realize the seals were bad. They have been doing fine together. The wolf hasn't bothered the jd since I put him back. So we will see.

I highly recommend moving the jd asap. Not only are wolves bad to keep with other fish. Ur wolf has already proven this. Don't kid yourself, IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. only a matter of time. If you care about ur jd, and I think you do, you will move it ASAP

I don't have a spear tank at the moment. I messed up the silicone and had to start over. I do have a divider on hand if needed but like I said they have been just fine together. I've have read several situations of them trying and once they know they can't eat it them it's left alone witch is what happened.
