I just went and pulled my lei out of my pond to put back in my main tank. And I noticed that a couple of scales on his left side seem to be slightly popping out. What is it and what should I do? I put him in a hospital tank for now.

Should I raise the temp? To what temp?
Should I add salt? How much per gallon?
Should I add melafix/pimafix/prazipro?

I will try to post some pics after he settles. The scales are barely popping so it is hard to take a pic of them. Hopefully I caught this early.

Check your water params. Crank up the temp to 79-82 and add some salt.

I hope it's not Dropsy...I have yet to have a fish recover from that.:(

not much we can do without some pix

Ok, I am trying to get some pics, but it is so faint that it doesn't come out in pics. I can try to describe it more. There are about 3-4 scales on its left side behind it gills (around where its stomach is) and they are slightly flexing outward. They aren't flat like they are supposed to be. There is no sign of trauma or infection, just the scales flexing outward.

I added 1/2 a cup of salt to the tank (30gal), so that is a little less that 1tsp per gallon. Should I add more? He is eating fine. I just fed him some shrimp. the temp is at 82. Should I raise it more?

is it possible that it was just an injury?

injury is what I am thinking...no sick aro would eat normally. how about the pix?
