Today my Oscar went ape**** for no reason, maybe got spooked, but he flipped out and hit his head just above and between his eyes and was knocked out for about 1 hour. I immediately grabbed him and held him to the filter where the water could flow through his gills because he stopped breathing. After 30 minutes he began slowly to breath again on its own so I set him up against the side of the tank so he would stay upright and breath ok. After a couple hours he started to swim but he acts retarded now. He acts like it's blind. It doesn't eat or react to any movements. Just swims back and forth slowly, but upright, bumping into the glass and swimming into the corners. He does have some discoloration like if the water is cold, but it is at 78.

Do you thin he will fully recover? Is it blind? I don't want it to suffer a slow death and starve to death. What should I do?

i would see if he eats first probably around 5 days then make your decision what to do. but i would see what others think first. Im sure he will be fine my o did something like that where he freaked and i came home to see a massive chunk taken out of his head and the lid broken. He ate after a couple days. dono what to tell ya.

Video is uploading, it's slow going but I will get it linked as soon as it uploads. My oscar is doing the same thing over and over. Swimming back and forth bumping into the glass.
:-(

I wish i could help....

Looks like it is on its way to complete recovery, just stressed out from the trauma. My o's slam their head pretty regularly on the top of their tanks, normally at feeding time.

I would suggest a bigger tank though.

Looks like a took a blow to the head for sure. I would buy some plastic plants to "cushion" his blow. I did this for whenever i would walk by my tank my silver dollars would freak and ram into the glass. What kind of filtration are you running on that? Also, a tank upgrade might help after he is better. I hope he recovers. Good luck. :D

Thanks guys. I'm giving him until Wednesday, to show any sign of improvement and eating anything at all. I can't sit here and watch it starve to death. I'm currently buying him a 75 gal tank. I do keep his tank very clean and test the water often. I change about 1/3 every week.
