My power went out about an hour ago due to a wildfire. Is there anything I can do to help keep my fish safe while the power is down? I'm not sure how long it is going to last and I'm getting nervous... any and all advice is GREATY appreciated.

PS I am brand new to this forum. Thank you all for having me

If you can go get some battery power air pump and some air stone drop it in your tank to keep some water movement and water oxygenated, you can remove bio media from your filter and place in in your tank (put them in a bag or filter sock to keep them together) near the air stone, feed your stock light to keep waste at minimal rate, do water daily if needed until power backup. Good luck!

Welcome aboard

If you have HOB filter remove the media and submerge in the aquarium so it wont dry out. You can every 1/2 hr or so just fill a container with aquarium water and pour it back so it agitate's the surface if your fish are not jumpers remove partial or entire lid .

Thank you! Great ideas. Unfortunately in my small town I won't be able to get a pump like that, but I do have the media and sacks. I will just move the water manually somehow

I actually have a UGF but I will definitely move the water like you said, thank you so much!

You can make pure oxygen to add to your tank and agitate surface tension.

You need
1. Empty water bottle
2. Air line
3. Air stone
4. Potatoes
5. Hydrogen peroxide

Drill a small hole in the lid of the water bottle, Just small enough to tightly push the air line through 1/2". Skin the potatoes and cut them up into small pieces that will fit in the bottle. Fill the bottle 1/4 with the potatoe pieces. Then fill with hydrogen peroxide to the same level as the potatoes. Put the cap with airline on tightly. Put the airstone on the other end of the airline and submerge.

Wa la! Pure oxygen to keep your fish breathing. Just dont let the bottle spill lol. It wont hurt, just not ideal.

Also dont feed your fish. They can easily go three to four days or more without food.

Oh yeah, dont submerge the airstone too deep, it will only create enough pressure for about 10" deep.

Good luck!
