Hey guys,

For the last month or so my stingray started not to eat as much and doesn't swim around anymore. I have noticed now that he has started to loose his color too. He is turning lighter and lighter. I have checked all my water parameters and it is good. My other stingray in there is fine too. I don't know what else to do right now. Any advice would help.

Thanks,

Dai

You'll need to post more than just 'water parameters are good'.... what are the actual values.
How big is the tank? Tankmates? How long have they been in there?
Any other changes?

In an established tank my guess would be excessive nitrate, buy a brand new test kit (salifert if possible) and test the water plus the tap water supply, my guess is that it will be off the scale. Please test and be honest with the results.

If its possible you could partition the tank off and put the weaker ray in there so its not competing for food with its much stronger tank mate or mates, once a ray stops feeding for a few weeks it can be hard to get them going again, just the physical presence of the others is enough to put them off....give it a try. Water is probably the likely cause thats created the problem in the first place,if its a new import then internal parasites can't be ruleed out.
Good luck!

How's the breathing? Is it very rapid?

What kind of ray is it

when i say water parameters are good means all values are at 0. i have had my teacup stingray for over a year now with the same routine and food is not an issue. They have always had enough food in the tank. tank mates include super red arowana, 2 stingrays, 1 alligator gar, 1 eel, 2 discuss. I do weekly to bi weekly waters changes of 30%. His breathing is not rapid, it actually seems alot slower than it use to be. Im gonna do another water change today and buy a new test kit. If anyone has any other suggestions in the meanwhile, please let me know.

Much appreciated.

Dai

You should always read some sort of nitrates. If there are none then the tank doesn't have established bb and needs to be cycled. That's quite a heavy stock and light/weak wc schedule. What size tank? With a heavy stock and light/weak wc schedule I would say it's quite possibly high nitrate levels but that's just a theory since we don't have any real test results here.

my tank is 150 gallons, let me test the nitrate today after i buy the new test kit and post the results.

Thanks,

Dai
