kenmore wa
he keeps opening and closing his mouth every two or three seconds like he is gasping for air.
and ever since i put him in my 150 g he stoped being active i asumed this was normal but he only comes out when the light is off and he used to be out all the time

no one????? please he is my baby:cry:

mine is pretty calm when lights are on. goes nuts when they are off. give more info. how did he act before the move? i feed mine and all is good in his world. he only does that with his mouth when he is sizing up a potential meal!!

my rtc x tsn doesn't move at all unless when feeding, my mom even thought it was already dead. then i said all dead fishes float when they are dead. i assume then staying still is normal but i have no idea about the gasping thing.

Has he got any red marks on him any where at all, they look like bruises. What substrate do you have? what are your water params, temp and other tank mates? what filteration do you currently have. This will help us all alot to help you a bit more. The reason i asked about the red marks is, mine had them and they were breathing really heavy and it turned out they had fluke. Quite easy to sort out once you know how but i panicked like you are now and thats the worst thing to do right now. I would check all params and make sure they are all ok, water temp should be no higher than 26c, any higher and your loosing oxygen, plenty of filteration is they key and good water changes 50% i would say, see if that helps. try maybe 2 per week for now see if his breathing calms, do this for 2 weeks Considering i dont know how you clean your tank or what substrate you have, i would recommend removing the substrate untill you solve this problem. Your substrate could be the culprit and hold high concentrations of nitrates or amonia. Thats all i can telll you for now untill i know more about your setup matey ;) Hope all works out well for you and mr rtcxtsn ;)

check the water perams...was the new tank cycled?...my tsns and my old hybrid did and do this...more so when they are full...alot of river fish do this type of behavior cause the current flows through their gills in the river and in a tank there is normally not as much current direction...just kinda swerls around...but you should be worried if you don't have a good strong filtration system and enough airation...
