I'm going to set up an aquarium shop, I am a fan of sumps etc but on a 100+ tank setup I don't like it, plumbing blows and if it leaks, it's hard to pin point the leak. any suggestions on a good "system" or way of setting up this many tanks.. at present they are on UGF - also heating would be a bonus,

Pink = UGF
RED = Gravel
black = glass (the dividers allow water to pass under the gravel, but they will be sealed up the top... this is mainly for heat, 1 heater per 3ft tank)
blue = heater

any other suggestions would be great.

if there is any good ways of putting tanks onto a system would be considered, but I am trying to stop drilling in the tanks.

thanks in advance MFKers!

why would you need a lot of plumbing? Just get the sump straigh under the overflow and done. all you need is a pump to get the water back. easy :)

10g & 20g tanks?

If your serious then you have to go the commercial route, overflows or drill the backs of the tanks with atleast one hole for the overflow.

UGF aren't the best thing now-a-days for a LFS.

Are you drawing water up in each section or just the ends ?

Heat transfer is uneven in your set-up if the store ambient temp. is lower than the water's.

Or 100 Large sponge filters and a large air blower :D .

The main disadvantages of a centeralized filter system are obviously the lack of ability to isolate disease outbreaks that are unfortunatly common in shipped stock due to the stress and the inability to alter water conditions for differant species. Well seasoned sponge filters do a great job of bio filtration but have generally poor mechanical ability and low water flow.
UG filters work but are very high in maintance.

A combination of powerhead driven sponge filters and a few Aqua clear power filters set up for mechanical filtration might work well. You simply rotate the AC's from tank section to tank section as needed. A large block of foam would be all you'd need in each one to save on costs.
