I was in the LFS the other day and they had in there tank buster tank a pike chiclid. just labeled as such no scientific name or ANY other info.

It looked very much like the pic on post 51 (the first pic)
http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=134800&page=6

It was not very colorful no lateral line and no spot on the tail. he was however over 12" long and very harty (looked well taken care for)
They were only asking $25 for him. (is this a good price I have never seen one for sale)

So one does this fish sound familiar to anyone. Could it be the same type as the post? I know I should have gotten pics but I wasn't exactly shopping for me lol.

Also what is the general requirments for this type of fish. If I were to get him he would temperarly go into a 125 till I got my 585 running. The 125 has pseudacanthicus plecos in it. Well one right now and 2 by months end. The plecos are 10"+ and the one I'm getting soon is 12"+ so the pike would not be oversized for his tankmates. The tank is a sand bottom and has lots of driftwood. No fake or real plants and no chincy decor.

Yup, sounds like a Crenicichla johanna. They are great pikes, no doubt!! I'd definitely grab it, as it would go great in the 125gal for life! Besides, they are totally awesome pikes worth keeping!! So go for it.

Really easy to take care of. Feed them a variety of foods, and sit back and enjoy. :)

Is $25 a good deal for one that size? I have never seen one for sale Like I sid so idk IMO it's a good deal that's all that really matters. but it's allways nice to get a good deal with a little reassurance. I think I'll call the place tomorrow and see if they will hold it for me till the weekend.

What about do they eat I allready got...
Bio-gold (sinking and floating)
tetra cichlid sticks (floating)
market shrimp
krill
off brand chiclid pellets. (sink/float)
and some randome other things.

And when I get around to it I'll pick up some big spectrum pellets and some massivore.

Of that what's the best to feed? Or do they need something different.
I got veggies to for the plecos but I dont' think a pike would like cucumber.

$25 is a great price for that size. what you're feeding already should suffice

Thats a good price all right you do have all the foods they need try fish fillets and worms as we'll and no pikes don't care much for cucumbers

Ahhh I knew I forgot the fillets. I have them to but don't feed fillet to offten.

What kind of worms are you sugesting. Earthworms? blackworms?

I called them today and told them if they still have him this sat. I am going to pick him up. I can't go durring the week b/c of my work. but If I call them and get the manager I know he will more then likly hold him for me. but if it's not him they won't do it.
