Hi all,
I'm new to the forum and I am about to get a 450 gallon tank. :D Firstly great but it comes as just a tank, now i was wondering could i use a pond filter for it (i'll put in proper tropical media thou) as i really dont fancy running 2 or 3 filters. Also i am going to build a custom lighting unit as at current it doesnt have any. Also what about heaters? What would you recommend. I am not a newbie to fish keeping it's just that going from a 250l aquarium to one of this size is quite a step up. Any help or advise would be good.
Also i am based in UK.

You could use a pond filter and it would probably do a great job. Just know that most pond filters are fed by gravity, so the filter has to be above the water level of the tank. For this reason, they're not often used for indoor tanks unless you can find a way to house the filter above the tank.

If you dont mind seeing it....you can run a very powerful submersable pump into a pond filter outside the tank. you can run over 2500 gallons per hour this way and the plumbing would be really simple. you would need to encase the filter in a large sock or prefilter enclosure (i have one) to keep your fish and plants from beoing sucked into the filter.
