Help needed with diy Overflow and Sump

Hey guys, alright i have a 125 gallon tank that I am setting up but its not pre drilled so I'm planning on making a overflow and sump. I was told by my lfs that i needed at least a 30gal long to make the sump preferably a 40 but the Berlin sump BS-1 for up to 125gal only holds 12gal and the BS-2 for up to 250gal only holds 16.5gal why is this and could i use one of these? Thanks for your help.

i would suggest making a pvc overflow and a sump out of a rubbermaid. a 30gal sump would be good

These are intended for S/W which doesn't use the bio-media like F/W does.

Piece of advice, If your going to stock your 125 heavy go with at least a 40g W/D (either tank or rubbermaid tub style).

I was planning on using a 30gal berlin style sump with red sea berlin turbo protein skimmer and mag drive 9.5 return pump because the 125 will be housing my volitans lionfish and about 15 to 20 mushroom polyps

just picked up a used 30gal to make my diy berlin style sump so i'll post how it turns out
