I want to apologise in advance for long post.

I've had my male mantilla for around 6 - 8 months with absolutely no issues until a week ago. He lives with a smaller female motoro and a 20cm saratoga jardini - all of whom get along famously.

About a week ago i noticed he didnt eat very much, but i thought nothing of it because he ate like a pig earlier that day.

Since then he hasn't eaten anything I put in, is quite lethargic, very lazy and his breathing seems to be shallow. And for a few days he has been producing stringy green faeces. This is something I've never experienced with any fish/ray I've owned :WHOA:

When food is put into the tank he is unresponsive but the other ray and jardini haven't changed. Despite the fact he hasn't eaten anything in over 5 days, he doesn't seem to be losing weight but I have noticed that his disc margin ripples gently when he's sitting still.

He normally eats a good variety of food: pellets, krill, prawns, squid, brine shrimp, mussels, i sometimes crush small smount of veg into their food aswell. Sometimes they eat the veggies but most of the time they'll just spit them. I've tried to feed earthworms and even live snails to no avail (you know someone's desperate when they're willing to put snails in the tank). He used to be the best competitor in my tank.

I've never used any meds and i'm quite religious with my water quality. During the last few days I've been changing about 15-20L per day just in case there is something I'm missing. Also been adding some seachem stress coat and bumped up temp to 28 deg C.

Again, apologies for the long post but never experienced anything like this before.

I would put in a divider, keep the lights off and chop what ever type of food he responds to into small pieces. You could also dose the tank with Prazi. No stress and clean water are key. From my own personal experience, I have had three rays go on a hunger strike around the 8-10" size. No idea why. All I did was keep up with the WC and add some salt to the tank. They came out of it. That being said, they never had any green stringy feces.

Are there any other meds similar to prazi? Turns out prazi isn't easy to find in Aus

steve where bouts u located man i can check my LFS in brissy to see who has prazi or a similar product

I'm from sydney. Yesterday I went to 6 different petshops/aquariums and 2 have never even heard of the product. But to be fair, neither have I - I'm not a big fan of meds and since I started keeping rays I've been really cautious about what goes into my tank/s.

Had the day of work today so had some extra time to monitor my tank. The good news is that he ate a few earthworms and squid bits today. There was a lot left over but the motoro quickly cleaned them up. He's moving around a little bit more aswell, but not across the bottom - he's moving very quickly throughout the water column which scares my toga to no end. He's always stayed at the bottom.... is this normal or would he still be stressed/ill?

Whatever was wrong with my mantilla is now over, however, I have a new issue with the tank. A few days ago I realised I have an EXPLOSION of what I think are detritus worms. I'm sure its my own fault as I have thrown in more food than normal over the last week or so to encourage the mantilla to eat. Aside from regular gravel vacuuming, is there another way to keep them under control? I am now doing larger W/C (approx 15% every 3 days) and that seems to help alot. I'm really hoping they don't become permanent residents.

If I replaced my aquarium lights with a pair of UV fluro tubes, would that be suitable?? Also, should I focus on UVA, UVB, or UVC? Sorry for being abit dumb but I've never used a UV light before.
