Have recently got an Eheim Professional 2028, 50 gallon tank. Lost s few fish yet water seems to be flowing fast, ther eis an indicator on it but I am not sure how it works, its ared nodule inside that moves, can't work out from the manual whether you should be seeing any of the red nodule if its on full flow. Also if the water is going up intake strainer and coming out spraybar is it working correctly, there is some gunk inside filter so am assuming its working correctly, is very stressful to lsoe some fish, just got back to hobby after 8 years away and kept loads of fish before and never had dissease losses, am worried that its new tank syndrome although filter had some time to mature, what you all think?

Sounds like the filter is running fine. What filtration was on the tank prior to the eheim? I'd say it sounds like you are just starting to cycle the tank again.

Other filter was cycled for two weeks then swapped over as not big enough, was a Fluval 205. Haven't got a test kit yet to test water parameteres, ph and hardness being Thames Valley water will be ideal for central americans, ph around 7.5-7.8 and high hardness. Am convinced there is an ammonia spike.

If you took off the fluval 205 when you put the eheim on, then you got rid of most of the BB, and have to recycle the tank completely. When switching filters, add the new one and leave both running for 2 weeks, or remove the media from the old filter and place it in the new filter. In the case of fluval to eheim, the media from the eheim is FAR better, so having both filters running for 2 weeks is the way you should be doing it.

Get yourself an ammonia test kit. They're cheap, readily available and will give you peace of mind. :)

Gonna have to do that, did used to test my water regularly but just assumed everything would be ok, stupidly now leave me guilty for messing up, have had Dovii, Salvini, Mbuna, Red Bellies lots fo stuff before nad never had fish losses so realy shocked and disappointed in myself, will get a kit check the ammonia nitrites and nitrates.

Yep, sounds like you've just re-cycled your tank. If your 205 has been out of action for a week, and or is completely dry, dont bother putting it back on as the BB would of already died off.
