Hi my 55g tank has jack dempseys, cutteri cichilds, 4 clown loaches, 1 of the jacks has a white fluffy growth in the mouth and all the fish are flicking off stones. No sign of white spot, the water parameteres are as follows, ph7.2, amm.0, nitrite 0, nitrate 30, any suggestions what could be wrong?!

For how long has the tank been running, and were any of your fish newly added to the tank?

The white fluffy growth sounds like fungus to me.

Regarding ick, you don't have to see white spots for the fish to be infected by it as ick can be present in the gills before any manifestation of ick spots on the body.

good luck!

The tank has been well established a year now. I added 2 juvenile jacks last week without quarantine bcause they wer a long time in the shop. Ive just added the interpet anti white spot treatment at half dose bcause of the clown loaches. Do u think this treatment will be sufficient enough for 1. The fluffy growth in the jacks mouth and 2. If there is white spot. I also increased the temp to 28 degrees celcius

I'm sorry to say this but most of the supposed mouth rot and fungal infection cases are not true fungal infections. This is another case of bacterial infection often confused with fungus. In concern towards your statement about ich, you're correct it doesn't have to be ich however there are plenty other issues involved. Silt irritation, presence of flukes and external parasites, velvet, bacterial infections and plenty others are also few of the main causes of flicking. In this case, I would not be that quick to surmise it is definitely ich. True that ich does manifest itself in the gill tissues but so do gill flukes so unless ich manifests itself as outbreak, then any treatment towards either issue can prove fatal to the fish.

Convict84, for now, remove that med using carbon. You risk using the wrong treatment without seeing further symptoms. As far as the white growth on the mouth, again this is bacterial infection. Treat with Maracyn and Maracyn 2 combination.

yep, as said before, sounds like mouth fungus. Use Pimifix
